Eight Hamilton residents are among 130 riders and support team members taking part in the 47th Annual Anchor House Ride for Runaways, set to take place July 12-19.

The annual one-week, 500-mile cycling event, rated one of the top multiday charity bike rides by Bicycling Magazine, raises funds for the homeless, abused and runaway youth and families served by Anchor House, a multifaceted social services agency headquartered in Trenton.

Hamilton residents participating include riders Bill Burns-Lynch, Chris Carr, Tom Julian, Dee Dee Juno, Warren Maruca and Paul Welsh; and support team members Astur Julian and John Noon.

This year’s ride departs July 13 from Geneva, New York, with stops in Corning and Binghamton as well as Scranton and East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania and Clinton in New Jersey before closing with a Welcome Home ceremony July 19 at Quaker Bridge Mall.

Founded in 1978, Anchor House serves at-risk and homeless youth and families in central New Jersey and is part of a nationwide system of runaway shelters. Programs offered by Anchor House include an emergency shelter for young people ages 8-18; a transitional living facility, the Anchorage, for high school students; a supervised apartment living program for young adults; a street outreach program for homeless youth; and a variety of counseling programs for at-risk youths and families.
