The Garden Club of America Zone IV presented its Civic Improvement Commendation to Linda Mead and the D&R Greenway Land Trust.

The club awarded Mead, president and CEO of D&R Greenway, for “years of inspirational leadership in the management and preservation of New Jersey’s open spaces, farmland and waterways for all to enjoy.”

This award joins the PlanSmart NJ 2013 Environmental Achievement Award, to Linda Mead and D&R Greenway for their regional-planning approach to preservation, and Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey’s Women & Wildlife Award to Mead for Leadership and Inspiration given in December 2013.

The award, a surprise to the recipient, was presented by Zone IV incoming Conservation Representative Suki Dewey.

Suki Dewey, Zone IV incoming conservation representative, presented the award. Zone IV is comprised of the 12 Garden Club of America chapters in New Jersey, including the Garden Club of Princeton and Stony Brook Garden Club.

D&R Greenway partnered with the Princeton and Stony Brook clubs on projects like creating a monarch butterfly habitat and native plant gardens. In addition, both clubs meet regularly at D&R Greenway’s Johnson Education Center.

This honor is based on inspiration, leadership, and a track record of solid accomplishments over Linda’s 17 years with the organization, now celebrating its 25th anniversary.
