The federal government has allotted money to both West Windsor and the WW-P school district for cleanup associated with the blizzard that pummeled the area between December 26 and 27 last year.

West Windsor Township received $96,882.26 in federal relief, while the West Windsor-Plainsboro school district received $22,213.46.

West Windsor Township Business Administrator Robert Hary said the money “goes right back into our snow removal trust fund, and then it will be used for future storms.” Prior to reimbursement, the township’s snow removal trust fund had been at $338,000.

The storm battered Mercer County with heavy snow, ice and wind, causing downed trees and power outages throughout the county. President Barack Obama declared Mercer County one of 13 New Jersey counties eligible for federal disaster aid to supplement recovery, and upon that declaration, Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes directed the County’s Office of Emergency Management to gather damage reports, stated a county press release. In the weeks following the

storm, officials coordinated visits with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) representatives. The storm damage assessments were compiled and submitted to the state, the press release stated.

Total eligible cost reimbursements are determined, and then FEMA reimburses 75 percent of that amount, the county press release stated. The total amount awarded to Mercer County was $1.2 million.
