New York University: Boyang Hou, a graduate of High School North, Class of 2006, has an exhibit facing Washington Square Park through December 1. “Soldier of Fortune” is mounted in three windows, lighted 24 hours a day.##M:[more]##

Hou, a junior at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, is a studio art major focusing on oil painting. This is his second solo exhibit. Last year he had one in Ghana, Africa.

The exhibit features a brigade of cultural warriors equipped with military accessories. Each soldier assumes a protective posture as they advance. “I want my work to raise 10 questions with every answer,” says Hou. “It should puzzle and irritate you enough to bring up issues of materialism, war, and government propaganda, yet, conversely, it should tickle you and make you chuckle at how ridiculous this whole thing is. My new line of designer military apparel invites viewers to step onto the battlefield and decide for themselves.”

Rider University’s Center for International Business: Rheya Price of Plainsboro, received a scholarship to travel to India in January for a study tour with professors Susan Denbo, Hope Corman, and Cynthia Newman. A junior, she is majoring in marketing and global business.

Courses for the study tour include several weeks of class meetings prior to the excursion abroad. After the tour, class sessions will allow students to share their experiences and present their research to other students and faculty. In order to be considered for the competitive award, students were required to submit an application, essay, and faculty recommendations, and have a minimum GPA of 3.2.
