The Center for Spiritual and Ethical Education selected Chapin School to host a conference on character education.

Character Education: Building Model Programs in Elementary Schools is scheduled for Nov. 1-2.

Independent schools including Isidore Newman School from New Orleans, La., and Collegiate from Richmond, Va., are set to join Chapin School in presenting their character education programs in Lower School and share best practices, resources and favorite activities for the classroom.

During the conference, participants will see what the different school programs have in common and how they differ based on school culture and specific needs. Participating administrators, teachers and schools can take away ideas for building a new or improving upon an existent, character education program.

CSEE hosts the conference to discover what new practices are effective and learn what other schools are doing.

Chapin introduced its character development program in 2001 after several years of research, studies and meetings with faculty, students, parents and trustees.

“We believe that school is a place to learn about being a good person as much as it is to learn about being a good student,” headmaster Richard Johnson said in a statement.
