The West Windsor Republican Club has invited Ron Slinn of the Friends of West Windsor Open Space (FOWWOS) to address the importance of open space in maintaining the semi-rural character of West Windsor. He will discuss the organization’s achievements and future plans as well as the impact of the recent lowering of the township’s municipal open space tax $0.01 per $100. He will also report on the Shade Tree Commission, a related organization of which he is vice-chair.

The meeting will be Thursday, November 15, at 7 p.m. at the West Windsor Senior Center at the Municipal Complex on Clarksville Road.

Slinn, a native of Australia, is an internationally recognized authority on forestry issues. He obtained his Ph.D. in Forest Economics at Duke and for 23 years was group vice president of the American Paper Institute and is now principal of Slinn and Associates, a forest products consulting group.

Friends of West Windsor Open Space (FOWWOS) is a non-profit, non-political organization that works closely with the township to preserve its open space and agricultural heritage. It negotiates with property owners to purchase their land for public use and preserve farmhouses of historical value. FOWWOS also promotes ecological, conservation and educational programs to advance these agendas.
