WW Police Praised For ‘Lighthouse’

Before we get too far into the New Year, we would like to thank the West Windsor Police Department for its outstanding job keeping the West Windsor community well informed during some important events in 2012.

Throughout Superstorm Sandy, we appreciated receiving the constant updates from the Police Department via Facebook and Nixle regarding power outages, downed trees and utility lines, and other safety matters. This steady stream of real-time reports was the result of “Operation Lighthouse”, a cutting-edge communications program created by Lieutenant Robert Garofalo.

For many of us who were without power for days, “Operation Lighthouse” was our only source of information regarding the storm’s impact on the local area. Thank you, Lieutenant Garofalo and your team, for giving us this much-needed connection to our community. Your posts and alerts provided us reassurance that the township was aware of issues happening in our neighborhoods and that assistance would be delivered as quickly as possible.

With extraordinary weather events seemingly becoming much more ordinary these days, there is no doubt “Operation Lighthouse” will become even more critical to keeping residents safe and informed. We are fortunate to have such an innovative and dedicated Police Department here in West Windsor.
