Too Many Political Signs

Share post:

I respectfully disagree with the letter encouraging the proliferation of campaign lawn signs in town (The News, October 23). My impression from driving around is that most of the signs I see on a daily basis are not an individual’s expression of support for a particular candidate or candidates, but signs put up by the candidates themselves on public property. The signs are becoming more garish, and larger, as the weeks go by, and rather than reflecting the worth of a candidate seem to be an indication of which parties are willing and able to throw money at an election by ordering more and more signs.

Democracy is about voters making the effort to learn about the candidates’ background and positions on issues, and voting for those who we feel will best represent us. It’s not about voting for who has the most, or most colorful, advertisements. The number of signs currently posted in town is frankly absurd.
