The Importance of Breast Cancer Awareness

Share post:

Why is raising breast cancer awareness still important today? Because early detection saves lives! Women’s lives are precious and valued. Children and many others depend on them, so they need to stay healthy. Women should not be afraid to seek medical care or talk with doctor or healthcare professional about any concerns, or to schedule a mammogram, and not skip having a mammogram.

In addition, some women may not have access to healthcare or education. They deserve accurate information and may qualify for free or low-cost mammograms. Early detection gives women more treatment choices and greater chances for recovery. When breast cancer is diagnosed early, before it spreads beyond the breast, the survival rate is 98 percent compared to 74 percent in 1980. How can you help? You can join the Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey Race for the Cure on Sunday, October 5, at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson (www.komencsnj.org/race or call 609-896-1203). Add your voice by becoming an “awareness” messenger. Your dollars will help fund breast health education and mammography screenings for medically underserved women and improved diagnostics and new treatments. Have fun getting your exercise, celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and support an important cause.
