School Board Does What It Wants to Do

I was told a long time ago, “If you want to do something, then you will find a way. If you don’t want to do something, then you will find an excuse.” The West Windsor-Plainsboro has recently proven this true.

The PIACS charter school filed a lawsuit against the district. Within a single day, the district sprang into action. E-mails were sent to the board members, the other school districts were consulted, lawyers were engaged and a press release was prepared, reviewed and issued to the media before the press deadlines. They wanted to do it and they found a way.

Meanwhile, the State awarded additional school aid to the district and recommended that it be used for immediate tax relief. The Plainsboro Township Council went on the record that this extra money should be given back to the taxpayers in the current tax levy. How did the district react? They ignored these recommendations. They claimed that the State gave them only a week to act. They claimed that this was too little time. So they did nothing, which was a decision to deny relief to the taxpayers.

So given the opportunity to provide tax relief, they found excuses. Obviously they didn’t want to do it.
