Road Diet Is Good for Safety

I was very interested to read the recent letters to the editor concerning the “road diet” proposed for Canal Pointe Boulevard.

As a resident of Canal Pointe I am in favor the of the proposal primarily for safety reasons. Left turns into Canal Pointe are accidents waiting to happen. Admittedly, left turns out of Canal Pointe may require longer waits during rush hour due to the diet, but I believe this will be offset by slower speeds and greater ability to judge the speed of oncoming vehicles.

Many comments are made about recreational bicyclists who may or may not use CPB more often. However, one population of CPB bicyclists has been overlooked: resident workers from Princeton who bike to jobs in Market Fair and Nassau Park Boulevard. I cannot state precise numbers, but there is a steady flow of cyclists at all hours of the day and night, and I imagine they would be grateful to have a bit of shoulder designated for bikes.
