Middle schoolers with a flare for writing, the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey needs your help.

PDFNJ is accepting scripts for its 14th Annual Middle School Public Service Announcement Challenge.

The organization asks teams of sixth, seventh and eighth graders to write a 30-second PSA with a substance abuse prevention message for their peers.

Teams can be made up of two to 12 students. An individual cannot be on more than one team, but teachers can submit scripts from multiple teams.

Students should address topics that affect their peers, such as underage drinking and prescription or illicit drug abuse.

Submissions must be accompanied by a form found on PSFNJ’s website. The deadline is April 20.

PSAs will be reviewed by a panel of judges who will critique submissions based on creativity, message content, age appropriateness and ability to be produced.

Students who submit the winning script will produce, edit and star in the PSA, which may be filmed at their school.

Last year, four seventh graders from Jefferson Township Middle School in Morris County won with their PSA titled We Don’t Cheer for Beer.

PSFNJ is a private not-for-profit coalition of professionals from the communications, corporate and government communities whose mission is to reduce demand for illicit drugs in New Jersey.
