NAMI Mercer is currently accepting registrations for its spring courses for individuals and family members affected by mental illness.

Family-to-Family is a 12-week course for adult family members of persons living with mental illness.

The curriculum covers the biology of brain disorders, recent developments in brain research related to mental illness and the latest medication and treatment options.

Families also learn how to cope with the stress of caregiving and how best to advocate for their loved ones.

The classes are on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the NAMI Mercer Center located at 3371 Brunswick Pike Suite 124 in Lawrenceville.

NAMI Basics, meanwhile, is a 6-week course for parents and caregivers of children or adolescents with behavioral or emotional challenges, including ADD/ADHD, PDD/Autism, Tourette’s Disorder, Bipolar and Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety and Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and early onset Schizophrenia. The course balances basic education and skills training with self-care, emotional support and empowerment.

The classes are on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Mercer County Family Support Organization located at 3535 Quakerbridge Road in Trenton and begin on March 4.

WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) is an eight-session workshop for people living in recovery from mental illness. WRAP guides the person to focus on positive supports, but also helps them to recognize triggers and symptoms that could cause them to become ill.

The sessions are on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the NAMI Mercer Center and begin on March 4.

Each course is free, but registration is required.
