Mercer County Community College and county dignitaries are set to commemorate the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sept. 11 at MCCC’s Commemorative Garden on its West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. In event of rain, the ceremony is set to be held in the Student Center.

During the ceremony, participating dignitaries will lay a wreath on the college’s memorial bench. Special tribute will be paid to Mercer County residents who died in the attacks.

This year’s guest speaker is Sam Plumeri, Jr., vice chairman of the New Jersey State Parole Board and former superintendent of police and director of public safety of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Plumeri serves on the executive board of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, as well as on the Regional Operations Intelligence Center Governance Board. He is the former Mercer County sheriff.

Also making remarks are county executive Brian Hughes, MCCC board of trustees chairwoman Gwendolyn Harris and MCCC president Patricia C. Donohue. The invocation will be given by the Rev. Robert Wittik.

MCCC music students, Celina Hicks and Irvel Jean, both of Hamilton, are the featured singers for the ceremony.
