A Mercer County Community College student is set to study in Spain starting Jan. 15.

Hamilton resident Catherina DePaz did not think she would have the opportunity to study abroad at MCCC.

“I was surprised and delighted that it has worked out,” DePaz.

DePaz is set to take classes in Mediterranean history and Spanish at the International University of Seville. MCCC said the credits she earns abroad will transfer back to the college and allow DePaz to graduate in May with an associate degree in liberal arts.

DePaz is set to live with a host family. She said wants to explore the city and other parts of Spain on her own.

DePaz said she traveled to Costa Rica last March with an MCCC study tour group. During the trip she stayed with with a host family in a small community.

“My host family was a young couple just a little older than me. They took me to dinner and to the beach; I learned so much Spanish from them,” DePaz said.

MCCC’s Study Abroad Coordinator Andrea Lynch said the trip to Costa Rica is one of the three trips offered for study tours this spring. Students can travel to Amsterdam and Poland in May.
