Ho is committed to the community

My two children attended WW-P Schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. They graduated in 2015 and 2013, and are in college now.

When I graduated from college (MIT) with a bachelor’s and master’s degree, I expected to pursue a serious career in transportation. I did that for many years as a planner and later senior operations manager in N.J. Transit. However, the call of parenthood was surprisingly strong, so my focus shifted to kids.

While parenting, and now as an empty-nester, my full time hobby has been volunteering to help the youth in our community through serving on the school board and volunteering with Girl Scouts. I found my “passion” late in life; it is Girl Scouts. As a troop leader, gold and silver award advisor and WW-P Girl Scout manager, I find joy in helping girls become all they can be.

WW-P is a strong school district. Niche recently rated ours as the third best school district in the state, and the 33rd best district in the nation. N.J. Monthly just ranked High School North as 2nd and High School South as 9th in the state. Students, parents, teachers and everyone in the community should be proud of these recognitions.

Some people are trying to scare the public into believing that things are falling apart. They are not. Do teachers retire and resign? Yes, they do, for a whole variety of reasons. Do we have administrators and supervisors? Of course we do. All organizations need supervisors. And the number is reasonable (actually it is on the low side when compared to other districts.)

Is the district perfect? Of course not. Do we need to keep working to improve the district? Yes. Do we need to improve our communications with the community? Absolutely. Do we need to make sure that the changes in the math program in 4th and 5th grade work out as proposed? Yes. Is the administration always right? Of course not.

It would be easier to maintain the status quo, but that would not necessarily be what’s best for our students. In order to remain strong, we need to continuously evaluate our programs by researching new data and assessing best practice, and make changes to enhance our district.

If you want a school board member with a long-term proven commitment as a volunteer to the youth in WW-P, who has ample time to dedicate to the job, has professional managerial skills and experience in the public sector, is an experienced school board member, speaks her mind and can work productively with others, please vote for me. I am self-funding my campaign, and am not beholden to others.
