Be Courageous

I would like to congratulate Hemant Marathe and Robert Johnson on their re-election to the board; and thank the voters of West Windsor for their strong support of my candidacy. As a new entrant to the political process, I did not know what to expect. To receive over 1,500 votes was a thrilling experience.

If I decide to run again, I hope the same people who voted for me on April 20, will vote for me again, maybe a few more. Clearly, my candidacy struck a chord with many voters. Whether I am on the board or not, I will continue to promote the concepts of merit pay and accountability as very effective techniques to obtain results.

As most of you know, the district faces difficult financial challenges ahead. I expect the board to demonstrate courage in making the tough decisions necessary to lead the district forward. These decisions, such as outsourcing, teacher compensation, and staffing levels, may be controversial. But they are necessary to continue to provide the top quality education the residents of this district have come to expect. Scott Powell
