Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello is offering free ID cards to veterans during the weeks of Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Veteran’s Day.

These cards can also indicate US military veteran status, which is useful at stores that offer discounts to veterans.

Veterans normally pay a reduced fee of $10, half the normal price, for a Mercer County ID card.

Veteran ID cards are free May 20 through 24, July 1 through 5 (the office is closed on July 4) and November 4 through 8 at the Mercer County Clerk’s office, 209 South Broad Street, Trenton. The ID department is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To acquire a Mercer County ID card applicants must be a county resident for at least six months and provide a valid birth certificate with a raised seal or naturalization certificate and a valid New Jersey Motor Vehicle License, voter registration card or lease agreement.

To have US military veteran status designated on the ID card, veterans must also produce their DD-214 honorable discharge papers.

Additionally, a veteran can file a copy their DD-214 at the clerk’s office free of charge. If their form is lost or damaged and needed in the future veterans, family members or legally recognized representatives of their estate may obtain a copy from the office with proper identification.

For more information call the clerk’s office at (609) 278-7108.
