American Legion offers early bird registration

American Legion Posts throughout New Jersey are holding an early bird membership drive through Labor Day.

Eligible veterans who join during the early registration period are set to get the rest of 2014 and all of 2015 included in their membership fee.

The American Legion, chartered by Congress in 1919, is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization. It is committed to mentoring youth, sponsoring wholesome programs in the community, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

The benefits to eligible veterans, reservists and active duty personnel include reduced rates on hall rentals and assistance with entitlement issues. Members may also be involved in involved in community activities such as Boys State, children’s coloring contests, scholarships, American Legion baseball, Boy Scouts, programs for hospitalized veterans and hosting Memorial and Veterans Day services.

Through the American Legion, members receive discounts on hotels, car rentals, eyeglasses, computers, the ability to participate in members-only insurance and prescription plans, and a subscription to The American Legion Magazine and New Jersey Legionnaire newspaper.

In addition, members are welcome at other American Legion posts worldwide.
