A Word to Wise Parents and the School Board

Share post:

I encourage everyone to attend the twice monthly school board meetings. Come prepared by reading the agenda in advance, and also the minutes of the Committee meetings. The committees (Finance, Curriculum, and Admin/Facilities) are where all of the action happens! So read up and come prepared with your comments. These are our kids and it is our community! We should be involved.

I agree with Mr. Weale that all BOE meetings should be videotaped and linked on the district website. Parents may be working in New York City or Philadelphia, spending time at home with younger children, or driving older ones to sports and other activities, and they cannot attend the meetings in person. Sometimes the district schedules other meetings at the same time as BOE meetings. Putting a video of the proceedings online would go a long way toward promoting parent involvement and ensuring transparency in the management of our schools.

Finally, I have regularly attended board meetings at both Grover and Community, and it is often very difficult to hear what is being said. The new district offices do have a large conference room that would be perfect for holding these meetings. I’m quite certain the acoustics would be fantastic compared with the middle schools’ cafeterias. Let’s get this done, WW-P!
