A Proper Tribute to John Nash

Share post:

This week our town honors John Nash’s contribution to mathematics by naming the park down the street from his home after him.

We have a unique opportunity to memorialize his legacy in the fields of differential geometry and game theory by creating a theme in this park that is dedicated to his life’s work in mathematics. Using plantings, statues, and benches, etc. that have a geometric theme — either by themselves or used together in patterns — could be a very creative way to honor his work.

Including math-oriented games would also reflect on his contributions, while at the same time inspiring a love of math in the young children who visit the park. Perhaps even a life-sized version of Hex, a game he created, could be included. It’s simple enough for children to understand and play, yet is also fun for others who have an interest in strategy and gaming.

As a member of Friends of West Windsor Open Space, I am happy to contribute to any committee that is tasked with developing ideas. I’m sure that whatever plan is developed will be a great tribute to Mr. Nash’s life.
