After nine years as the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen’s (TASK) longest-serving executive director, Dennis Micai is slated to retire on August 1, 2016.

Before heading TASK, Micai worked for the Mercer County Board of Social Services for 34 years, the last seven years of which he served as the board’s director of welfare. He also subsequently served for two years as executive director of The Arc Mercer.

At TASK, Micai oversaw a dramatic expansion of the soup kitchen’s effort to feed the hungry in Mercer County’s outer-ring communities (TASK will serve more than 250,000 meals this year). Under his stewardship, TASK developed partnerships with a wide array of charities and religious institutions to open satellite meal service location in Trenton, Princeton, Hamilton, Yardville and Hightstown and to implement the school-based Send Hunger Packing Program in cooperation with the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank. He also spearheaded and expanded the soup kitchen’s strategic planning process, which has enabled TASK to increase its programmatic efforts while strengthening its financial position.

The TASK Board of Trustees Executive Director Screening Committee will oversee the search for Micai’s successor. Its goal is to have a new executive director on board by June 2016 to allow for a smooth transition. A description of the position is available at trentonsoupkitchen.org.

Candidates who meet the job requirements, which include at least five years of hands-on leadership and managerial experience in a nonprofit or related area, are encouraged to apply no later than November 20, 2015.
