The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department are investigating a shooting in Trenton that left one man dead.

At approximately 9:23 p.m. on March 13, Trenton police were sent to the area of Dayton and Grand streets on a ShotSpotter activation for multiple rounds. ShotSpotter is an acoustic gunshot detection system that uses acoustic sensors that can detect, locate and alert police to all gunshot incidents.

Upon arrival, officers located a white Toyota 4Runner parked in the middle of the street in the 300 block of Dayton Street. Inside, officers discovered Wilmer Eliu Vidal Romero, 25, of Trenton in the driver’s seat bleeding excessively from an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene. The victim was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
