The Robbinsville Township Police Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team are investigating a multi-vehicle accident that occurred Monday evening, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office reports that preliminary investigation indicates that around 6:30 p.m., a white GMC Savana work van, traveling south on U.S. Route 130, caused a Pontiac Trans Am to cross the median in the area of Woodside Road. The Trans Am then collided with vehicles traveling in the opposite direction.

The prosecutor’s office says the white van left the scene and was located this morning in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. The driver of the van has not been located.

The driver of the Trans Am was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Vincent Zitani, 23, of Yardville. Zitani had attended Hamilton High School West.

Two other cars were involved: a Hyundai Elantra and a Toyota Highlander. The adult male driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai remains hospitalized. The Toyota had carried six individuals: four adults and a teenaged girl from one family, and a person identified as a family friend. Most of them remain hospitalized. The teenager was airlifted to RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick in critical condition.

The accident is being investigated by Robbinsville detective sergeant Adrian Markowski and prosecutor’s detective Salvatore Vaccaro. Anyone with information pertaining to the investigation is asked to contact Markowski at (609) 259-3900 or Vaccaro at (609) 273-7453.
