Have a hand in shaping unified Princeton by submitting a name for its municipal buildings.
Mayor Liz Lempert said in a statement Princeton Public Library is sponsoring a contest to rename Princeton Borough Hall, 400 Witherspoon St., and Princeton Township Hall, 1 Monument Drive.
“The library celebrates words, ideas and community every day, I can’t think of a better institution in town to work with our new government to select new and memorable names for these symbols of our community,” Lempert said.
Each building accommodates different municipal functions. Borough hall houses the municipal court, the offices of the Mayor, Administrator and Clerk, the Police Department and the tax, finance engineering, construction and historic preservation departments.
Township hall houses the health, human services and affordable housing departments and management offices for the sewer operating committee and public works department.
Contestants must be a Princeton resident and at least 18-years-old.
Contestants may submit one name for each building accompanied by an typed, 250-word-maximum essay in support of their recommendation.
Entry forms are available at the library’s Welcome and Information desks at 65 Witherspoon St., the Office of the Clerk at 400 Witherspoon St. and online at princetonlibrary.org.
The submission deadline is set for 5 p.m. Feb. 15.
A panel of judges will review the entries and recommend up to three names for each building to the municipality. The municipality reserves the right to not select a winner or to disqualify entries that do not meet competition requirements.
Finalists will receive a certificate commemorating their role in naming the buildings, a $250 gift certificate to McCaffery’s, season tickets to Princeton University football or basketball for next season, a family membership to the Princeton Community Pool and free borrowing privileges for CDs and DVDs at Princeton Public Library.
Winning entrants will be notified and the building names will be announced during the week of March 1.
