Byatt and Ostriker reading set for Feb. 13

Author A.S. Byatt and poet Alicia Ostriker are set to read selected works Feb. 13.

The event is free and scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at The Berlind Theatre, 91 University Place, Princeton.

Byatt was named one of the 50 greatest British writers since 1945 by the British newspaper The Times. Her novel Possession, published in 1990, won the Booker Prize. She is also known for her short stories including Sugar and Other Stories, The Matisse Stories, The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye, Elementals and Little Black Book of Stories. Her latest novel, The Children’s Book, was published in 2009.

Byatt will be introduced by Paul Muldoon, Howard G.B. Clark ‘21 University Professor in the Humanities, a professor of creative writing at the Lewis Center.

Ostriker is a two-time National Book Award finalist. She has published numerous volumes of poetry, including The Book of Seventy in 2009, which received the Jewish National Book Award. In her poetry, Ostriker explores themes of family, social justice, Jewish identity, and personal growth.

Ostriker will be introduced by Sarah Manguso, a lecturer in Creative Writing at the Lewis Center and a previous Princeton Hodder Fellow.

The reading is part of the Lewis Center for the Arts’ Althea Ward Clark W’21 Reading Series. Along with Byatt and Ostriker, Princeton University student Audrey H. Hall will read from her recent translation work.

Other scheduled readings are Nikky Finney and Azar Nafisi on March 13 and Matthew Dickman and Joseph O’Neill on April 17.
