Rider University and Blawenburg Bands to perform spring concert

The Rider University Band and The Blawenburg Band are set to present their annual spring concert, conducted by Jerry E. Rife, on April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bart Luedeke Center Theater.

The performance will feature traditional favorites including The Star Spangled Banner, The Stars and Stripes Forever, John F. Edmund’s Britannia: An English Folk Rhapsody and Leroy Anderson’s Sandpaper Ballet. It will also feature arrangements of I’ll Be Seeing You, Oxford Street March, Nearer My God to Thee and more.

Rife, the chairman of music in the fine arts department at Rider, holds a B.S. in music education and an M.M. in clarinet performance from Kansas State University. He also has a Ph.D. in musicology from Michigan State University.

The Rider University Band has performed locally at venues like the Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton and the New Jersey Special Olympics Competition. The band has no audition process and is open to all musicians interested in band performance.

The Blawenburg Band is the oldest continuously performing community band in the state and one of the oldest in the country.

It specializes in music from the golden age of concert bands. The membership includes both professionals and dedicated amateurs.

Admission is free.

The Bart Luedeke Center Theater is located on the campus of Rider University at 2083 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrence.
