The Mercer County Park Commission is set to host pontoon boat and kayak tours of Mercer Lake located in Mercer County Park.

Pontoon Boat Nature Tours are 90-minute tours of the ecology of Mercer Lake led by the park’s Naturalist staff. Participants are equipped with binoculars to spot various birds and wildlife.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at the Mercer County Park Marina beginning at noon on the day of the tour and are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ticket holders can enter the dock at 1 p.m. Each tour runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Tours are scheduled for June 19 through 21, July 17 through 19, Aug. 14 through 16, Aug. 29 and 30 and Sept. 5 and 6.

Kayak Tours of Mercer Lake are also being offered this summer. Beginners to experienced paddlers can join park naturalists for up-close encounters with the lake’s organisms.

In kayaks, participants can paddle up to the shore line for views of wildflowers or float alongside a beaver dam. Binoculars are set to be loaned to participants who would like to use them.

This program is $16 per person and requires registration. To register, contact Jenn Rogers at jrogers@mercercounty.org or (609) 303-0706.

Participants are encouraged to bring plenty of water and shoes that can get wet. Kayaks, paddles and life jackets are set to be provided.

Each Kayak Tour is set to run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Kayak Tours are scheduled for June 14, July 19, Aug. 3 and Aug. 17.

At the heart of Mercer County Park’s 2,500 acres is Mercer Lake, which is home to many many native plants and wildlife that are seldom seen in central New Jersey. At 365 acres it is the largest body of water in the county.

Mercer Lake is located at Mercer County Park in West Windsor.
