Classes are free and are set to begin in September.

NAMI Family to Family is a 12-week course with lessons for caregivers on communication, problem-solving techniques, coping mechanisms and the self-care skills to deal with their loved one’s mental illness as well as its impact on the family.

The Family to Family course is designed for family members/caregivers with caring for a diagnosed individual 18 years and older.

This class is set for two locations for two separate courses.

Classes are set to be offered on 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays starting Sept. 11 at Recovery Advocates of America, Lexington Square Office Park, 2117 Highway 33, Suite 1, Hamilton.

The second course is set for 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays starting Sept. 12 at NAMI Mercer Center, Lawrence Commons, 3371 Brunswick Pike, Suite 124, Lawrenceville.

NAMI Basics is a 6-week course with similar lessons to Family to Family. It is designed for family members/caregivers with a diagnosed loved one six to 18 years old.

This course is co-sponsored by the Mercer County Family Support Organization.

NAMI Basics is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays starting Oct. 2 at NAMI Mercer Center.

Family to Family and NAMI Basics’ curriculum covers the biology of brain disorders, recent developments in brain research related to mental illness and the latest medication and treatment options.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan is an 8-week course offered twice a year by a peer facilitator and a mental health professional. Research on WRAP has shown it to decrease psychiatric symptoms and to increase one’s sense of hope and recovery.

This class is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays starting September 18 at NAMI Mercer Center.

NAMI Mercer programs are free, but registration is required.

NAMI Mercer is a non-profit organization of families and individuals working to improve the lives of those affected by mental illness through education, advocacy, and mutual support.
