Man shot and killed in Lawrence Applebee’s on Route 1

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a deadly shooting that took place at the Applebee’s restaurant on Route 1 near the Quaker Bridge Mall.

Police arrived at the scene after midnight on Tuesday to find one man dead from a gunshot wound. A preliminary investigation by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office indicates that 23-year-old Devin Smith, of Lawrence, was seated at the bar at Applebee’s when he was shot in the head at approximately 12:25 a.m.

The suspect then fled the property in a dark-colored SUV. The suspect is described by police as a black male in his mid-20’s.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported. The motive is currently unknown, and the restaurant was taped off as of Tuesday morning.
