Lawrence High School is set to host a community voter registration drive on Sept. 28.
“The voter registration drive is a bipartisan, school-led initiative aimed at promoting the importance of voting and making it easier for community members to register,” states a school district news release.
Students, staff and representatives from community organizations, such as the League of Women Voters, Mercer County Board of Elections, the NAACP, Lawrence Neighbors, and others will be on hand.
The will assist attendees with the registration process, answer any questions and provide information on upcoming local, state and national elections.
In addition to voter registration, the event will also offer information on absentee and early voting options, voter ID requirements,and polling locations.
Participants will be able to register to vote, update their voter information or learn more about how they can become active in the electoral process.
“We believe that every voice matters, and by helping our community members register to vote, we’re taking an important step towards ensuring that everyone can participate in our democracy,” said Jametta Clarke, a social studies educator at Lawrence High School, and chair of the event.
The event is free and open to the public. Community members are asked to bring a valid ID and proof of residency, as these may be required to complete the registration process.
