Lawrence Library to host Classic Songs from Classic Films

Jazz musician and lecturer Gordon James is set to perform “Classic Songs from Classic Films” at the Lawrence Library at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2016.

The Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System is set to host “Classic Songs from Classic Films” on Thursday, February 18, 2016. The program will take place at 7 p.m. at 2751 Brunswick Pike in Lawrenceville.

The event will feature Gordan James who will give a lecture and perform a variety of songs from movies made in the 1920’s all the way through the 1960’s. James’ repertoire of songs includes a wide variety from “Over the Rainbow,” to “The Lady is a Tramp” from High Society (featuring Grace Kelly, Bing Crosby, and Frank Sinatra), and even some selections from Casablanca. Ever wonder when the song “The Way You Look Tonight” premiered? Come listen to James explain its origins in Swing Time, a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers film, before he performs it live.
