Local business owner Dhvani Patel is set to open a Firehouse Subs location in Mercer Mall in Lawrenceville on March 3.

The Lawrenceville location is the first to open in New Jersey; it joins more than 740 Firehouse Subs restaurants in 41 states.

Founded by former firefighting brothers, the restaurant’s firehouse décor is based on the founding family’s decades of fire and police service. The new location is decorated with local firefighter memorabilia from Lawrenceville Fire Department.

Firehouse Subs restaurants boast a custom, hand-painted mural that pays tribute to the local community. The Lawrenceville mural depicts local firefighters extinguishing a brush fire off Interstate 95. Chief mural artist Joe Puskas and his team paint every mural in his studio at Firehouse Subs Headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.

The sub shop’s menu features hot subs including the Hook and Ladder, served with smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham and Monterey Jack cheese. Other items include the Smokehouse Beef and Cheddar Brisket with smoked beef brisket, melted cheddar cheese and a special combination of sauces, and the New York Steamer, which combines corned beef brisket and pastrami with melted provolone.

Unique to Firehouse Subs is Captain Sorensen’s Datil Pepper Hot Sauce, named in honor of the founding brothers’ father, Rob Sorensen, a 43-year retired fire captain.

The restaurant also features a touch-screen operated soda fountain, which offers more than 120 sparkling and still beverage brands.
