Twin Pine Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol cadet Benjamin Miloszar was presented with the Amelia Earhart Award at a CAP squadron meeting at the Trenton Mercer Airport last month. The award is given in conjunction with achieving the grade of Cadet Captain and was presented to Miloszar by the Civil Air Patrol New Jersey Wing Commander Colonel Steven M. Tracy.
The Amelia Earhart Award is the third of five milestone awards that Civil Air Patrol cadets can earn. Named for the groundbreaking aviation pioneer, cadets who earn the award must live up to Earhart’s standards of excellence.
Achievement of this milestone award requires successful completion of leadership and aerospace exams, a rigorous physical fitness test and demonstration of leadership abilities including principles of officer-ship and the responsibilities of command. Approximately 5 percent of cadets nationwide earn the Amelia Earhart Award.
Captain Miloszar currently serves as the Cadet Commander for the Twin Pine Composite Squadron. He also serves on the New Jersey Wing Cadet Advisory Council which works with leaders at the state level to recommend solutions and identify opportunities to improve the Cadet Program.
Civil Air Patrol’s 56,000 members nationwide also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. Its members additionally play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 24,000 young people currently participating in the CAP cadet program.
Performing missions for America for the past 75 years, CAP received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2014 in honor of the heroic efforts of its World War II veterans.
