St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center is set to host its annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo and Safe Kids Day on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The event aims to provide children ages 3-12 and their families with an opportunity to learn about safety and prevention while participating in sports and other recreational activities.

The day will include bicycle inspections conducted by Economy Bike Shop and the Lawrenceville Police Department. Bicycle tires, frames, handlebars, chain guards and reflectors will be checked, and parents will receive a check-list for each bike indicating if anything needs to be repaired.

Children will be fitted for a free bike helmet by a St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center therapist. Children can participate in a bicycle safety course which allows them to illustrate knowledge of traffic signals, hand signals, parked cars, and how to avoid unexpected obstacles. Volunteers will guide and teach children at each station of the obstacle course.

Water safety programs will also be included and St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center will give away a limited number of Personal Flotation Devices for children up to 90 pounds.

Many organizations are set to participate with interactive games and safety exhibits, and the Trenton Thunder mascot, Boomer, will also be at the event.

Children must pre-register for this event to receive a free bike helmet and bike inspection. Registration will begin March 1, 2015 by email at bikerodeo@slrc.org (preferred) or by phone at (609) 896-9500, ext. 2212.
