Adath Israel to celebrate 90th anniversary

Adath Israel Congregation is set to celebrate its 90th anniversary and Rabbi Daniel Grossman’s 25th year as its spiritual leader with a a year-long calendar of cultural and social activities.

The celebration year is scheduled to kick off with an Israeli Street Fair and concert headlined by The Fountainheads on Oct. 20.

The Fountainheads are a group of young Israeli singers, dancers and musicians, all graduates and students of the Ein Pratt Academy for Leadership.

Opening for The Fountainheads is the Rutgers University a cappella group Kol Halayla, a student group which had its origins at Rutgers Hillel and is now the premier Jewish musical group on the New Brunswick campus.

Other events scheduled for the celebration include a Shabbat service honoring past presidents and longtime member families on Feb. 7; a costume party themed “Rockin’ Out the 90’s” on Feb. 8; an artist-in-residence weekend with noted artist and art historian Mordechai Rosenstein in April, and a gala tribute event honoring Rabbi Grossman.

Adath Israel, founded in Trenton in 1923, moved to Lawrenceville in 1991. Adath, the first egalitarian Conservative synagogue serving the Princeton-Mercer-Bucks area, has been cited by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism in the categories of inclusion of individuals with disabilities, publications, celebrations and dedications.
