Washington Crossing Nature Center to host outdoor activities in July

The Nature Center at Washington Crossing State Park is set to host several educational and outdoor events in July. The center is located at 335 Washington Crossing Pennington Road in Titusville.

On Saturday, July 4 from 1 to 5 p.m. the center will host a session on “North American Ice Age Stone Toolmaking Industries.” Hosted by flintknapper/lithic technologist Jim Silk, the presentation will demonstrate Paleo stone tool making technologies using organic materials found in the archaeological record and examine their historical relevance.

The Nature Center plans to host a Family Nature Walk for all ages on Sunday, July 5 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Park vehicle entrance fee is $5 per car.

A Night Hike for ages 6 and up is set for Saturday, July 11 at 8:30 p.m. Explore the park for nature at night on this naturalist-guided hike and campfire. Advanced registration required. Bring a flashlight.

The Nature Center plans to host a session on “Backcountry Fire Building” on Sunday, July 12 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Participants can learn valuable skills, practice “leave-no-trace” ethics and become aware of fire safety. Witness a fire-building demonstration, then get hands-on experience using the methodology to complete the one-match fire challenge. Advanced registration required. Park vehicle entrance fee applies.

A Pond Study is set to take place Sunday, July 19 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. (ages 6 to 12). Kids will use pond nets to collect and examine the various organisms that inhabit the pond. Advanced registration required.
