Toll Gate Grammar School recently held a kick-off event for their annual Thanksgiving service project, which will provide nearly 700 full Thanksgiving dinners for Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK).

The kindergarten students were introduced to the project with a slide show presentation detailing the “tasks” that will take place. Derrick Branch, a writer, poet and musician from TASK’s SHARE project, also returned to the stage for the third consecutive year to inspire the students with his original poems “Junk Food Junkie” and “Wisdom and Knowledge.”

As Thanksgiving approaches, Toll Gate students will collect canned and boxed food, make 250 signature sweet potato pies, and oversee turkey donations from local businesses and families. Joining their efforts, nursery schools will make cranberry relish, Cub Scouts will decorate lunch bags, Girls Scouts will make cornbread and Timberlane Middle School students will pack lunches.
