Off-Broadstreet is offering a theatrical escape from the traditional bombardment of holiday fare that begins by Thanksgiving. Enjoy Off-Broadstreet’s production of “There’s a Burglar in My Bed” by Michael Parker for a silly madcap sex farce with a bit of mystery added. The show opened Nov. 23 for a five weekend run.
William Worthington (Billy) and his wife Ashley are both secretly enjoying affairs. The Worthington’s are scheduled to be away for the weekend leaving their estate vacant. Billy secretly plans to stay home entertaining his lover, Buffy, at the beach house while Ashley and her love interest, Teddy, also plan a secret rendezvous at the house. The confusion and the door slamming doesn’t stop there. If divorce is in the Worthington’s future, there is the matter of who keeps the priceless Worthington necklace. In a plot to keep the jewelry both couples devise their own convoluted schemes to steal the necklace for themselves. Soon a clumsy private investigator, Buffy’s sister, and a sexy seductress all enter adding to the mayhem.
Artistic Director Robert Thick has assembled a strong cast of performers to bring this comedy to life. Playing Ashley and Teddy, two lovers looking for a weekend of excitement are returning OBT actors Vicky Czarnik of Langhorne and Brady Niederer of Lambertville. Billy Worthington, a man whose eye wanders toward love interest, Buffy, is played by OBT favorite Barry Abramowitz of Lawrenceville. Buffy is portrayed by OBT veteran and Rider student Tess Ammerman of Hopewell. The woman voted “most likely to”, Marianne, is performed by OBT newcomer Alexis Newbauer of Philadelphia. The inept Private Investigator is played by OBT standout John Bergeron. Buffy’s sister is played by OBT stage veteran and house manager Katie Munley of Raritan.
The fast paced comedy features scantily-clad nuns, would-be Burglars, sexy lovers and a clumsy photographer dashing from room to room. Off-Broadstreet Theatre is a great venue for family, work or social gatherings as we celebrate the year end. Enjoy a scrumptious dessert and bottomless cup of coffee prior to the show and then be ready to laugh.
Performances of There’s a Burglar in My Bed are weekends November 23 through December 22. Friday and Saturday evenings, doors open at 7 p.m. for dessert with 8 p.m. show. Sunday matinees feature 1:30 p.m. dessert with 2:30 p.m. show. Tickets start at $29.50
