Rutgers Cooperative to offer Take Control of Your Health workshop

Rutgers Cooperative Extension Service of Mercer County, Department of Family and Community Health Sciences is set to host a free six-week workshop titled Take Control of Your Health. The series will run from July 1 through August 5. Classes will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension offices, 930 Spruce Street, Lawrenceville.

Adults of all ages, who are living with long term health conditions, as well as their caregivers, are encouraged to take part in this series. Using a variety of fun and interactive techniques such as brainstorming, problem solving and action planning, participants will learn to better manage their symptoms and understand how things like healthy eating, physical activity, and better breathing techniques, sleep, and how communication can improve their quality of life. Participants will receive a free book Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions and light refreshments will be served.

Take Control of Your Health is sponsored by the Northwest New Jersey Community Action Partnership, the Hunterdon & Mercer County Regional Chronic Disease Coalition, and Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station. The workshops will be facilitated by trained leaders Michelle Brill, Family & Community Health Sciences Educator, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer County; Amanda Medina-Forrester, Coalition Coordinator, Hunterdon & Mercer County Regional Chronic Disease Coalition; and Beatriz Velazquez Certified Personal Trainer.
