Several Hamilton residents are set to perform in a presentation of West Side Story at the State Theatre

The West Side Story tour, directed by George Street Playhouse associate director David Saint, is set to stop in New Brunswick in May.

West Side Story tells the story of star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria as they struggle to rise above the hatred and intolerance that surrounds them. The Bernstein and Sondheim score is considered to be one of Broadway’s finest and features such classics of the American musical theatre as Something’s Coming, Tonight, America, I Feel Pretty, and Somewhere.

Saint recreated Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents’ Broadway direction for the tour and Tony Award-nominee Joey McKneely reproduced Jerome Robbins’ original choreography.

The cast features Hamilton residents Roasalie Graziano and Kristen Hoagland.

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. May 30, 31 and June 1; and 2 p.m. May 31 and June 1 at State Theatre, 15 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick.

Ticket prices range from $75 to $35.
