The Diocese of Trenton is set to hold its RE:IMAGE Film Festival on April 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The festival which will be held at Count Basie Theater in Red Bank is a celebration of established and aspiring artists who use the medium of film to reflect God’s image in the world.

The festival will feature a competition of short film entries in three categories, as well as filmmaker panels, the screening of non-competitive short films, an awards ceremony and a feature film presentation.

This year’s feature film will be “Gimme Shelter,” starring Vanessa Hudgens, Rosario Dawson, Brendan Fraser and James Earl Jones. Based in New Jersey, the film tells the powerful story of a teenager faced with desperate choices when she finds herself pregnant and homeless, and how meeting people who cared changes her life for the better.

A combined total of 25 films have been selected for screening in the three competition levels. Filmmakers will be competing in each of the three levels for the Best Picture, Mission Excellence and Viewers’ Choice awards.

The high school film competition will run from 11:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. and will be followed by a panel discussion of high school filmmakers. The College/Young Adult level competition will screen from 1:15 to 2:45 p.m., followed by a panel discussion of filmmakers in that category. The third and final level, making up the General Competition, will take place from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m., and the panel discussion will run until 5 p.m.

Among the winners is Shannon Kay of Hamilton who along with Rebecca Rosenberg and MeiLin McElhill made the film Noteworthy.

Noteworthy is a four minute film where stressed out and overwhelmed with a school project, Abbey enters a dream-like state where she encounters a moment of clarity.
