Hamilton boy dies after being hit by vehicle on Nottingham Way

A 13-year-old Hamilton boy died after being hit by a vehicle on Nottingham Way early this morning.

The Hamilton boy was riding his skateboard around 12:40 a.m. on Nottingham Way near the intersection of Gregory Drive when he was hit by a Toyota Rav4 driven by Mauricio Velastegui, according to a police statement.

Police determined that the victim was riding his shakeboard along the eastbound curb line of Nottingham Way when Velastegui who was traveling westbound crossed the double yellow lines of the roadway and struck the victim.

Velastegui, a 34-year-old from Hamilton, was charged with death by auto.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the Capital Health Trauma Unit in Trenton where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained during the crash.
