Children using the facilities at the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) of Mercer County Yardville branch can now play ball year round thanks in part to a $15,000 grant from Investors Bank, which helped fund the construction of a new gym.
“We have been planning this for many years now, and we are thrilled to finally have a large indoor space for the kids to utilize year round,” said Tom G. Mlandenetz, Executive Director of CYO of Mercer County. “We have a beautiful property when the weather is nice, but we can’t send the children outside for three months out of the year, so it’s a blessing to have this space. It elevates our entire program and takes it to a different level. Investors Bank was our primary donor, and we are truly appreciative.”
CYO of Mercer County applied for the grant from Investors Foundation, which supports non-profit organizations that enrich diverse communities served by Investors Bank. The $15,000 grant will be given in installments of $5,000 over the next three years.
“A child’s education should be about more than just reading books in a classroom; interactive play and physical exercise is an important outlet for young children with lots of energy,” said Linda Martin, a Senior Market Manager for Investors Bank. “We are so proud to support the new gym at CYO of Mercer County, which will help hundreds of children in the area.”
The Monsignor Toomey Annex, a 4,600-square-foot multi-purpose space, will be used by the 300 children ages five to 13 who attend the CYO day camp, as well as the 60 children enrolled in the preschool program and 70 children in Kindergarten through fifth grade who take part in afterschool activities at the Yardville branch. Children’s soccer and basketball leagues also will use the space.
