Historical society to host presentation on Revolutionary War patriot

Ewing Township Historic Preservation Society is set to host a presentation about Elias Boudinot, a New Jersey patriot of the American Revolution.

Ewing resident John Maloney is set to lead the presentation.

Elias Boudinot was a delegate to the Continental Congress, and later a Representative in congress. A lawyer with a practice in Elizabethtown, he was a long-time member of the board of trustees of Princeton College.

As president of the Continental Congress from 1782 to 1783, he signed the Treaty of Paris with England, ending the war and British occupation of the former colonies.

He went on to serve as director of the U.S. Mint, and was the first president of the American Bible Society. He was the brother-in-law of Richard Stockton of Morven in Princeton.

Presenter John Maloney is a graduate of Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey), where he majored in history. He earned a Master’s in Education from Temple University, and a Juris Doctorate from Rutgers-Camden School of Law.

He taught as an adjunct professor for seven years at The College of New Jersey, and previously worked as a research assistant to the historian for the City of Burlington. He currently practices criminal defense law.

The presentation is scheduled for scheduled to present 2 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Benjamin Temple House, 27 Federal City Road, Ewing.
