Akinosho, a Junior at Ewing High School, was attending a backyard pool party when someone yelled that a child was lying at the bottom of the pool. He dove, fully clothed, into the water and pulled the girl to the surface, where she was revived.

The medal is awarded by the National Court of Honor of the Boy Scouts for meritorious action. Akinosho is a member of Troop 15, Ewing Township, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The troop is based at the Ewing Presbyterian Church.
