Anna Johnson was recently named the Fall 2021 Nursing Award winner by the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation.
The award is presented to “a nurse making an outstanding difference in the lives of patients and families,” according to a news release.
Johnson, a Ewing resident, is a nurse in the intensive care unit at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. She was nominated by a patient’s daughter.
“While my mother was awaiting bypass surgery, Anna went above and beyond to care for my mother,” the nominator wrote. “She did a wonderful job of comforting her and making her feel comfortable emotionally as well as physically. She rubbed her head and held her hand through their worries.
“It is something I won’t forget nor will my sister, thank you. The nurses who helped us with my mom deserve huge recognition, they all have been amazing.”
Given in collaboration with The American Organization of Nurse Executives, the DAISY Award was established in 2000 after the Barnes family was inspired by nurses who looked after J. Patrick Barnes, who died at 33 of an autoimmune disease. They wanted to thank medical practitioners nationwide for “making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and families.”
At the ceremony, Johnson also received the “Healer’s Touch” sculpture in addition to her certificate and pin.
“I’m honored to have been chosen as a St. Francis’ DAISY award winner,” Johnson said. “I’m thankful to be recognized with this award and proud to be a part of the St. Francis nursing team.”
