Ask Ewing’s Mayor: What can be done about speeding on Lower Ferry?

Now that the county is finally repaving Lower Ferry Road, are there any plans to implement some kind of traffic control on this and neighboring streets? Drivers regularly exceed the posted speed limits, pass other vehicles and blow through red lights. Repeated complaints never result in any changes.

I have informed our police chief of the concerns on Lower Ferry Road regarding speeding. We have placed speed humps on many roads recently and have scheduled additional speed humps on some of the roads off of Lower Ferry Road between Carlton and Terrace Boulevard.

I know there is a noise ordinance in place in Ewing, but is there a town ordinance to stop commercial landscapers from cutting grass on Sundays in our town? Its family time and sleep time and it makes me crazy on Sundays! Plus it is also annoying when you are in church and you hear a lawn mower going outside. They should not be allowed to cut grass before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and not at all on Sunday.

The noise ordinance indicates that it applies Sunday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Not every resident goes to church on Sundays. Some go on Saturday. Some have work hours that make Sunday the only day they can cut the grass.

I have owned a property in Ewing for two years now and noticed during the winter that a person’s snow plow service plows their driveway snow across the street onto my lawn. Is it legal to have your snow plowed across the street onto someone else’s property?

—Lawrence Suggs

A contractor cannot plow snow from someone else’s driveway onto your property. If you report the contractor, we will notify them of the violation. Call my office to report it at (609) 883-2900, ext. 7647 or email me at town hall at bsteinmann@ewingnj.org

If you have a question for the mayor for next month’s edition, submit it by emailing bsanservino@mercerspace.com. You must be a Ewing resident.
