The Burlington County Library will host its first Fandom Fest – celebrating pop culture, video games, cosplay, comics, art, sci-fi, anime, fantasy, film and television – on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westampton facility.

Geared towards teens and adults, the free event is open to the public and costumes are encouraged. Participants are expected to include fans of the Avengers, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Naruto, Mario and more. Feel free to cosplay as your favorite character and get your picture taken at our photo booth.

Throughout the afternoon, visitors will enjoy a variety of fandom fun, including retro, old-school style video games, as well as tabletop games such as Magic the Gathering and other favorites. Also planned are a Doctor Who Trivia contest that will allow true Whovians to flaunt their fandom, and a life-sized chess game.

Meanwhile, the Fandom Fest Dating Game will include a cosplay twist: bachelors and bachelorettes will be dressed as their favorite characters and will be required to stay in character as they answer questions.

There will also be a special workshop for those who want to learn how to make amazing costumes for their next cosplays, and the Hawkeye Initiative Photo Challenge for those who have ever wondered how a comic book character got into a ridiculous position and want to test their own flexibility.

Visitors will also be invited to check out the library’s incredible graphic novel collection and take home some reading suggestions. In addition, The Friends of the Library will host a specialty book sale during the event featuring manga, graphic novels, science fiction, fantasy, and more.

The Burlington County Library is located on Pioneer Boulevard off Woodlane Road in Westampton. For more information about Fandom Fest, call (609) 267-9660, or go to www.bcls.lib.nj.us.
