Calling all storytellers and anyone interested in the art of storytelling!

Join Larry Johnson for a remarkable, one-of-a-kind storytelling performance and workshop focusing on how to develop personal stories and infuse folk and literary tales with an authentic voice, Aug. 29 at the Open Arts Stage, 146 US 130, from 2-4 p.m. Johnson will share from his repertoire of stories, including one folktale which captures his personal voice, one personal experience story and one story that focuses on his heavy use of music, particularly of “found instruments” — which might otherwise be languishing in a landfill. Bring questions!

Johnson is a storyteller, educator and Vietnam-era veteran from Minnesota who uses storytelling to make the world a better place through environmental education, as well as efforts to support veterans and advocate for the prevention of unnecessary warfare.

A lifetime member of the National Storytellers League, Johnson introduced World Storytelling Day to the United States, used a storytelling model to start the first participatory, pediatric patient TV channel in the country and has spent over 20 years as a Minneapolis schools specialist, teaching storytelling, video and environment. In March of this year, Johnson led a workshop at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum and currently facilitates school storytelling residencies and a program, using storytelling and humor, to help adults with mental illness to live better.

Tickets are $10 and are available at bit.ly/authentic-voice-aug-29.
